This 8-acre site in Bridgewater, NJ has only 6 acres of usable land due to drastic slopes and flood areas. Country Classics approached us to design the building on a pre-approved footprint. We created 51 total units with a lower level community space, storage areas, and individual private garages. The rental units are a mix of 1, 2, and 3 bedrooms.
This 3,408 square foot, 4 bedroom, 3½ bath model was offered in a small enclave in Medford, NJ. The wrap-around country porch invites you into the home where you’ll find a large gathering room with coffered ceilings that opens to a spacious kitchen. The master suite offers volume ceilings, large closets, a sitting room, and spacious master bath.
Country Classics proposed rezoning of an existing single family lot just under an acre in Westfield, NJ. The developer wanted to construct 6 townhomes that were 3-stories and approximately 2,800 square feet. There were several challenges, however. The first was a large grade differential from the street to the lot. Adjoining properties also limited access to the site. Since the surrounding area was made up of single-family homes, we needed to integrate the clusters of pre-zoned townhomes, while working around the grade difference. We did it seamlessly, through careful planning and exceptional design work.
Located on Route 206 in Montgomery, NJ, this redevelopment site stretches approximately 5 acres. It has its challenges with a large grade difference from the road to the rear of the site, and a very narrow width. We worked with Country Classics to propose 2-3 story buildings with 115 rental units that fit neatly within the footprint and adjusted for the grade differential.

This 17,000 square foot private custom estate home is set on a six acre wooded site reminiscent of an “enchanted forest”. The owners, proud of their Irish heritage, sought a very European castle-like design concept for their home. This complex estate has everything from a gate house entry to a home with three floors of luxuriously appointed living space. In addition to an attached three-car garage, the property also has a six-car detached garage to house the owner’s collection of unique automobiles. The lower level of the home is “entertainment central” featuring an Irish pub, casino, home theater, spa, guest quarters and every facility for lavish entertaining. A turret staircase to all levels of the home, an elevator, an elaborate first floor master suite and heated floors throughout are just some of the special appointments in this singular home.
This 1800’s era Victorian styled home’s original space was 3,404 square feet. An additional 1,056 square feet was added during the expansion/alteration process. The area above the expanded dining room increased the size of the master bedroom. The existing kitchen space was maintained as the working kitchen area. A morning room and a family room with fireplace was added. A rear staircase was added from the first floor to the basement, as well as an elevator which was added from the basement to the first and second floors, to accommodate special family members’ needs. Some exterior work was also completed including a new roof, an added back entry, a three-car attached garage and a revised landscape plan. Throughout, the Victorian flavor of the original home needed to be maintained.
Holliday Architects works with representatives of the Marriott Hotel group in creating unique designs that meet special needs. For the Courtyard by Marriott in York, PA – a four-story hotel building with 103 guest rooms and additional public spaces – an all wood-frame design that would meet local codes and maintain the Marriott prototype was created. This type of project represents an area of architectural practice that is often overlooked. It is less the “excitement” of creative design and more the matter of technical aspects “behind the walls” that make such a project work.
This project was for the addition and expansion of a very small, existing log cabin structure in a log community. The client’s original structure was a mere 896 square feet. The design challenge was to increase the space within the limits of the 20-foot wide lake-front site to update the structure for current day use. An additional 898 square feet was added with the interior spaces reconfigured to expand the dining room area with existing fireplace, add a new kitchen and gathering room at the rear of the home and to create a new master bedroom, bath and hall bath above the kitchen expansion. The home’s original staircase was similar to a ship’s ladder and needed a completely new design. The original 800 feet of existing space was reconfigured to include a living room, powder room, closet and mechanical room. The new kitchen/gathering room area was stepped down approximately 12″ to gain greater height for the spaces. The design retains the log home’s “authentic” look, maintains the roof line and works with melding the existing log work with the new construction.
This three story, 5,500 square foot home was designed for the Jersey Shore summer lifestyle with ample room for family and guests. Seven bedrooms, six full and two half baths accommodate a houseful of summer visitors. The design challenge was to position spacious rooms to maximize bay views in a home on a narrow lot. Three levels are served by an elevator from the first story with two bedrooms and a children’s playroom to the main living areas and three additional bedrooms on the second level and finally to the master suite and additional bedroom on the top floor. The main living areas are all open with views to the bay.
For the renovation of this 4,800 square foot residence, extensive redesign of the master suite and bath was done. New details included a spacious walk-in shower, separate tub and commode room. A double-sided fireplace enhances the sitting room. The kitchen and breakfast area was completely redesigned to accommodate the owners’ pleasure in cooking and entertaining. Access to the kitchen from both the foyer and formal dining room was enhanced by archways with barrel-vaulted ceilings. A 13-foot center island with bar sink and snack level became the focal point of the kitchen’s work area. A commercial cooktop and multiple wall ovens were installed. A new pantry was included in the design, with the existing pantry space converted to a home elevator. Triple windows overlook the rear yard of the home.
This two story, 3,220 square foot custom home on the bay in Brigantine was designed with the living spaces, including kitchen, dining and great rooms as well as the master suite on the second floor. Large decks offer bay views. Three additional bedrooms with two baths comprise the first floor level of the home.

This existing 47 year old Shore home was renovated to provide more space, updated facilities and a new look for the home’s exterior which was similar to many other homes in the general neighborhood. An existing seasonal sun porch was converted to an all-season sunroom on the front of the house. This opens to a new wrap-around porch which is partially screened and partially open. A whole new master suite was built above the porch additions, specifically positioned to capture the ocean view. An upper deck was added to the suite, along with an all new bath and closets. The result, along with the addition of new and updated spaces, was the conversion of a dated ranch-style home into a two-story home with unique styling.
The owner of this uniquely designed home had moved back to the East Coast after living for a while in California. She wanted a ranch style home similar to those she had seen there, with an open “West Coast” feel. The homesite she selected was the last available of five in a secluded enclave of distinctive homes. The requirement in this select community, however, was that homes there be designed with a minimum of 4,500 square feet. The challenge was to create a ranch style home that met the square footage requirement and would be in harmony with the other much larger homes in the enclave. A unique design with multiple high ceilings throughout achieved this goal. Special features include a three-car garage, full basement, extended covered rear porch with mechanical screens, an outdoor kitchen under the porch, a swimming pool with detached pool house and a bonus room above the garage.
The original home on this site, two houses from the beach, was an old style two story duplex. The architectural group redesigned the custom re-make as a three story home featuring two private residences. The first floor is comprised of two equally sized private living spaces. Unit A on the left also includes the full second floor of the home, with private access. Unit B on the right includes the full third floor area, serviced by an elevator. This townhome/flat combination is a unique design departure from the typical duplex design.
This 2,650 square foot three bedroom, 3 ½ bath home is situated one block from the bay with a larger adjacent home effectively blocking water views. To meet this design challenge, the main living areas, including dining area, kitchen, study and great room were positioned on the second level where access to an upper roof deck offers views of the bay and surrounding areas. Bedrooms, including the master suite, are on the first level of the home. A stone and cedar exterior with metal roof accents enhance the home’s curb appeal.
The client for this project was a small builder who specializes in rehabilitating older neighborhoods by buying small, older homes and partially tearing them down to the foundation and first floor framing, then rebuilding to create a larger, redesigned home. The project was for a template design for five infill single family homes on a single street. Originally a small, single-story cape design, each home was rebuilt in an expanded design with a reconfigured first floor and an added second floor. The original first floor portion in each home was approximately 1,200 square feet, with an additional 1,200 square feet added in a second story. While the basic template is the same for all homes, some small changes were made to accommodate specific owner requests.
A unique custom home designed as a builder’s model, this property has a “Main Line” formal country home flavor. It is distinguished by a stone and stucco exterior facade with a pillared portico entering to the grand two-story foyer. A double-sided fireplace is between the foyer and the great room at the rear. A grand staircase off the foyer has an angled bay window on the landing. A sunny atrium with a vaulted ceiling adjoins both a morning room off the kitchen and an enclosed sunroom to the rear. The expansive master suite on the second floor is set off from the three additional bedrooms and baths for added privacy. Two of the second floor bedrooms have ensuite baths.
This unique oceanfront property in Cape May, New Jersey was designed for a private client. The architectural team faced many challenges with a very narrow homesite sandwiched between another private home and a hotel. Additionally, Historical Society regulations needed to be met. Finally, with an oceanfront location, the desire was to maximize ocean views from every area possible. The finished home is only 23 feet wide and 80 feet deep. Three floors of living space provide for four bedrooms, including the master suite. Volume ceilings distinguished by custom moldings give the kitchen and main living areas an open, spacious feel, as do wide hallways and custom window designs. Side and front exterior porches on the two main floors take full advantage of ocean breezes and spectacular views. Site lines to the adjacent hotel structure were minimized and stained glass windows in colorful shore designs closed off stairwell landings from hotel views. The distinctive exterior design makes this property right at home in this historic Shore community.
The client for this two story cape style home design sought to downsize yet maintain a custom feel. Stone and cedar shake accent the exterior. Three bedrooms, 2 ½ baths, a great room, kitchen/breakfast suite and study make best use of the 2500 square feet of living space.

The owner of this 6,400 square foot custom home was influenced by homes seen in Florida. His desires were satisfied with a design that focuses on a lanai with a screened-in swimming pool. In keeping with the casual Florida lifestyle, the family room, kitchen, bar and man’s den all open directly onto the lanai. The home’s unique kitchen design includes a spacious work area, breakfast room and adjacent homework area for the family’s children. The most unusual feature of the kitchen is the coffered diagonal tray ceiling. Two large storage areas are included, one a walk-in pantry, the other a kosher pantry for storage of holiday dishes and other kosher items. All bedrooms are on the second floor with the master suite situated several steps above the other bedrooms. A rear staircase leads down to the children’s rooms. An elevator shaft was built into the home to accommodate a future installation.
