Medford

This project was for the addition and expansion of a very small, existing log cabin structure in a log community. The client’s original structure was a mere 896 square feet. The design challenge was to increase the space within the limits of the 20-foot wide lake-front site to update the structure for current day use. An additional 898 square feet was added with the interior spaces reconfigured to expand the dining room area with existing fireplace, add a new kitchen and gathering room at the rear of the home and to create a new master bedroom, bath and hall bath above the kitchen expansion. The home’s original staircase was similar to a ship’s ladder and needed a completely new design. The original 800 feet of existing space was reconfigured to include a living room, powder room, closet and mechanical room. The new kitchen/gathering room area was stepped down approximately 12″ to gain greater height for the spaces. The design retains the log home’s “authentic” look, maintains the roof line and works with melding the existing log work with the new construction.

Hainesport

This 1800’s era Victorian styled home’s original space was 3,404 square feet. An additional 1,056 square feet was added during the expansion/alteration process. The area above the expanded dining room increased the size of the master bedroom. The existing kitchen space was maintained as the working kitchen area. A morning room and a family room with fireplace was added. A rear staircase was added from the first floor to the basement, as well as an elevator which was added from the basement to the first and second floors, to accommodate special family members’ needs. Some exterior work was also completed including a new roof, an added back entry, a three-car attached garage and a revised landscape plan. Throughout, the Victorian flavor of the original home needed to be maintained.

Moorestown

For the renovation of this 4,800 square foot residence, extensive redesign of the master suite and bath was done. New details included a spacious walk-in shower, separate tub and commode room. A double-sided fireplace enhances the sitting room. The kitchen and breakfast area was completely redesigned to accommodate the owners’ pleasure in cooking and entertaining. Access to the kitchen from both the foyer and formal dining room was enhanced by archways with barrel-vaulted ceilings. A 13-foot center island with bar sink and snack level became the focal point of the kitchen’s work area. A commercial cooktop and multiple wall ovens were installed. A new pantry was included in the design, with the existing pantry space converted to a home elevator. Triple windows overlook the rear yard of the home.

Stone Harbor

We renovated this 47-year-old shore home to provide more space, updated amenities; also a fresh exterior made it stand out from the other homes in the general neighborhood. An existing seasonal sun porch at the front of the house was converted to an all-season sunroom. This opens to a brand new wrap-around porch which is partially screened and partially open. A new master suite was constructed above the porch additions, specifically positioned to capture the ocean view. An upper deck was added to the suite, along with a bath and closets. The renovation, along with the addition of new and updated spaces, transformed this dated ranch-style home into a gorgeous 2-story home with unique styling.

Otts Tavern Medford

The existing 3,710 square foot restaurant and bar was dark, dated and worn. The bar was small and off to the side of the focal space, which was a sunken area 280 square feet in size, devoted to dining. The sunken floor was leveled and the interior space redesigned to position the bar as the focal point, twice its original size, with comfortable seating. Windows were added overlooking a courtyard which offers outdoor service in season. Furnishing and equipment were updated to include a wine chiller/dispenser and flat screen TVs surrounding the bar, giving the restaurant a fresh, new look. One of five in the owner’s family of restaurants, the new facility now offers a stylish, updated venue with a casual, social atmosphere, a diverse menu, scheduled special events and banquet services all accommodated by the renovated design.

Otts Tavern Washington Twp

This project entailed the design and construction of a new, outdoor patio and bar facility for this restaurant. The original deck structure was attached to the main, older building. What appeared to be a simple design and replacement of the structure evolved into a greater scope of work due to the age of the main building and the requirements of the township inspector. Windows and doors in the original building needed to be replaced and numerous other “behind the walls” details emerged and required attention. The finished covered patio now includes colored concrete flooring, stone walls and a permanent roof replacing the tent covering used in the previous structure.

Courtyard Hotel – York, PA

We work with the Marriott Hotel group in creating distinctive designs that meet special requirements. For the Courtyard by Marriott in York, PA – a 4-story hotel building with 103 guest rooms and additional public spaces – we created a wood-frame design that met local codes while maintaining the Marriott prototype. This type of project represents an area of architectural practice that is often overlooked. It depends less on the “excitement” of creative design and more on the technical mastery “behind the walls” that makes such a project successful.

Enchanted Castle

This 17,000 square foot private custom estate home is set on a six acre wooded site reminiscent of an “enchanted forest”. The owners, proud of their Irish heritage, sought a very European castle-like design concept for their home. This complex estate has everything from a gate house entry to a home with three floors of luxuriously appointed living space. In addition to an attached three-car garage, the property also has a six-car detached garage to house the owner’s collection of unique automobiles. The lower level of the home is “entertainment central” featuring an Irish pub, casino, home theater, spa, guest quarters and every facility for lavish entertaining. A turret staircase to all levels of the home, an elevator, an elaborate first floor master suite and heated floors throughout are just some of the special appointments in this singular home.

West Coast Ideas

The owner of this uniquely designed home had moved back to the East Coast after living for a while in California. She wanted a ranch style home similar to those she had seen there, with an open “West Coast” feel. The homesite she selected was the last available of five in a secluded enclave of distinctive homes. The requirement in this select community, however, was that homes there be designed with a minimum of 4,500 square feet. The challenge was to create a ranch style home that met the square footage requirement and would be in harmony with the other much larger homes in the enclave. A unique design with multiple high ceilings throughout achieved this goal. Special features include a three-car garage, full basement, extended covered rear porch with mechanical screens, an outdoor kitchen under the porch, a swimming pool with detached pool house and a bonus room above the garage.

Cozy Contemporary

This cozy 2,644 square foot, 3-bedroom, 3½ bath custom home is in Brigantine. Due to the location of the lot, which had limited views of the bay, the second floor was chosen as the main living level. This effectively captured those scenic views, and opened up an additional vantage point from a rear roof deck. The owner decorated the interior with a warm contemporary flair to create inviting spaces for entertaining and relaxing.
